“It takes a heap of sense to write good nonsense” ― Mark Twain

I thought I needed a hobby. I bought a camera, lenses and all sorts of related paraphernalia, it seemed a sensible thing to do. So many people love photography, I was sure I would too.

Soon found out taking pictures wasn’t my medium of choice, still working on it though, but right now I’d rather write. I write short stories as a way to record my thoughts and observations. By no means on epic life-changing events, or high-profile news flashes. Trivial topics, that’s my game.

And I love to travel. For most of my adult life I have been involved in tourism and travel. I worked in a tented youth hostel in England for many summers and after completing military service in the Netherlands, with some peacekeeping in Lebanon, I spent time in Africa leading expeditions and safaris. I met a Canadian girl and ten months later we tied the knot in Nairobi,  Kenya. Eventually we moved to Canada and I drove tour buses through the Rocky Mountains while going to university. We ended up owning a motel and later a small resort, but always took lots of time off to travel to new places.

I now drive tour buses once again taking me to all sorts of places in Canada and the United States. And when I’m not driving, I’m sailing, scuba diving or just aimlessly wandering somewhere at large.

I’ve been married to Sheena since 1986 and we have one daughter. I’m a licensed scuba dive instructor, live on a vegetable-based diet, have a degree in ecology, enjoy movies, reading, good coffee and just being in the great outdoors.
